MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
I teach both tenor banjo lessons and five string banjo lessons. I won the 2014 gigmasters award for the top banjo player in the country. For mandolin lessons I teach Bluegrass, Irish and Swing styles of playing. I have several students who take ukulele lessons. I teach ukulele in both the standard tuning (GCEA), and the 5ths tuning (CGDA). I also teach bagpipes, harmonica, pennywhistle, tenor and standard guitar, didgeridoo, bodhran, bones and concertina.
I studied theater and music at Dartmouth College and took banjo lessons, ukulele lessons and mandolin lessons with the vaudeville string musician, Roy Smeck. I have worked as a professional musician for 25 years and play with my own Country, Bluegrass, Dixieland, Italian, Hawaiian and Irish bands.
If you already play violin, mandolin lessons would be easy for you as the instruments share the same tuning. likewise if you play viola, tenor banjo lessons and tenor ukulele lessons would also come easily as they can share the same CGDA tuning.
If you like Italian music I also offer mandolin lessons in this style as well as Italian concertina lessons.
If you like Irish music I can give you lessons on both mandolin and tenor banjo as they share the same tuning.
I also teach acting, storytelling, tap dancing, clogging, Irish step dancing, rope tricks and hat tricks.
I am especially good at helping students put together musical routines, auditions, storytelling / music pieces and solo cabaret shows.
I work in my home/studio in Montclair NJ and on Skype.
I charge $25 for a half hour and $45 for an hour.
